約書亞記-Joshua 第 9 章

9:1	約但河西，住山地、低陸、並對著利巴嫩山沿大海一帶的諸王，就是赫人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人的諸王，聽見這事， And when all the kings who were across the Jordan in the hill country and in the lowland and on all the shore of the Great Sea toward Lebanon, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, heard of this,
9:2	就都聚集，同心合意的要與約書亞和以色列人爭戰。 They gathered themselves together to fight with Joshua and Israel with one accord.
9:3	基遍的居民聽見約書亞向耶利哥和艾城所行的事， But the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,
9:4	也就設詭計，假充使者而來；他們拿舊糧袋和破裂縫補的舊皮酒袋馱在驢上， And so they too acted craftily. And they went out as though they were envoys; and they took old sacks upon their donkeys, and old torn up and bound up wineskins,
9:5	將補過的舊鞋穿在腳上，把舊衣服穿在身上；他們帶著作食物的餅都是幹的，都長了黴。 And old patched sandals on their feet, and old garments upon themselves; and all the bread of their provisions was dry and had become moldy.
9:6	他們到吉甲營中見約書亞，對他和以色列人說，我們是從遠地來的，現在求你們與我們立約。 And they went to Joshua at the camp of Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, From a faraway land we have come; now therefore make a covenant with us.
9:7	以色列人對這些希未人說，隻怕你們是住在我們中間的；若是這樣，我們怎能和你們立約呢？ And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Perhaps you dwell among us. How then can we make a covenant with you?
9:8	他們對約書亞說，我們是你的仆人。約書亞問他們說，你們是什麼人？是從那裏來的？ And they said to Joshua, We will be your servants. And Joshua said to them, Who are you, and where are you coming from?
9:9	他們說，你仆人是因耶和華你神的名而來，因為我們聽見祂的名聲和祂在埃及所行的一切事。 And they said to him, From a very far land your servants have come because of the name of Jehovah your God, for we have heard reports of Him and all that He did in Egypt
9:10	並祂向約但河東亞摩利人的兩個王，就是希實本王西宏和在亞斯他錄的巴珊王噩，一切所行的事。 And all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were across the Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon and to Og the king of Bashan, who was in Ashtaroth.
9:11	我們的長老和我們那地的一切居民對我們說，你們手裏要帶著路上用的食物去迎接以色列人，對他們說，我們是你們的仆人；現在求你們與我們立約。 So our elders and all the inhabitants of our land spoke to us, saying, Take provisions in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them; and you shall say to them, We will be your servants; make then a covenant with us.
9:12	我們出來要往你們這裏來的日子，從家裏帶出來作食物的這餅還是熱的；看哪，現在都幹了，都長了黴。 This bread of ours was hot when we took it for our provisions from our houses on the day we went forth to come to you; and here it now is: it is dry and has become moldy.
9:13	這些皮酒袋，我們盛酒的時候還是新的；看哪，現在已經破裂。我們這些衣服和鞋，因為道路甚遠，也都穿舊了。 And these wineskins, which we filled, were new; and here they are: they are torn up. And these clothes and sandals of ours have become old because of the very long journey.
9:14	以色列人受了他們些食物，並沒有求耶和華指示。 And the men took some of their provisions, but they did not ask for the counsel of Jehovah.
9:15	於是約書亞與他們講和，與他們立約，讓他們活著；會眾的首領也向他們起誓。 And Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly swore an oath to them.
9:16	以色列人與他們立約之後，過了三天才聽說他們是近鄰，住在以色列人中間的。 Then at the end of three days, after they had made the covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors and that they dwelt among them.
9:17	以色列人起行，第三天到了他們的城邑，就是基遍、基非拉、比錄、基列耶琳。 And the children of Israel set out and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon and Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.
9:18	以色列人沒有擊殺他們，因為會眾的首領已經指著耶和華以色列的神向他們起了誓；全會眾就向首領發怨言。 And the children of Israel did not strike them, for the leaders of the assembly had sworn to them by Jehovah the God of Israel; and all the assembly murmured against the leaders.
9:19	眾首領對全會眾說，我們已經指著耶和華以色列的神向他們起了誓，現在我們不能碰他們。 Then all the leaders said to all the assembly, We have sworn to them by Jehovah the God of Israel; therefore now we cannot touch them.
9:20	我們要如此待他們，讓他們活著，免得因我們向他們所起的誓，就有忿怒臨到我們身上。 This we will do with them and let them live, so that wrath does not come upon us because of the oath that we swore to them.
9:21	眾首領又對會眾說，要讓他們活著。於是他們為全會眾作了劈柴打水的人，正如眾首領論到他們所說的。 And the leaders said to them, Let them live. So they became woodcutters and drawers of water for all the assembly, as the leaders had said concerning them.
9:22	約書亞召了他們來，對他們說，為什麼欺哄我們說，我們離你們甚遠呢？其實你們是住在我們中間。 Then Joshua called for them and spoke to them, saying, Why have you deceived us, saying, We are very far from you; when you dwell among us?
9:23	現在你們是被咒詛的；你們中間必不斷有人作奴仆，為我神的殿作劈柴打水的人。 Now therefore you shall be cursed; and there shall never fail to be slaves from among you, woodcutters and drawers of water for the house of my God.
9:24	他們回答約書亞說，因為實在有人告訴你的仆人，耶和華你的神曾吩咐祂的仆人摩西，把這全地賜給你們，並將這地的一切居民從你們麵前除滅，所以我們為你們的緣故甚怕喪命，就行了這事。 And they answered Joshua and said, Because it had been told to your servants for certain that Jehovah your God had commanded Moses His servant to give you all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and we did this thing.
9:25	現在你看，我們在你手中，你看怎樣待我們為善為正，就怎樣作罷。 And now here we are in your hand: Do as it seems good and upright in your sight to do to us.
9:26	於是約書亞這樣待他們，救他們脫離以色列人的手，以色列人就沒有殺他們。 And he did so to them and delivered them from the hand of the children of Israel, and they did not slay them.
9:27	當日約書亞使他們在耶和華所要選擇的地方，為會眾和耶和華的壇作劈柴打水的人，直到今日。 And that day Joshua made them woodcutters and drawers of water for the assembly and for the altar of Jehovah, as they are to this day, in the place that He would choose.
